Dear Friends and Colleagues:

I thought today that my main concern was to finish the CD (including The Book) and get everything mailed out. I was wrong. My main concern is that our friends, athletes, judges and loved ones have been devastated by hurricane Katrina.

This morning as I frantically watched all information come in and desperately tried to get through via phone or email to our friends, I felt totally helpless.

Therefore, not being one who can just sit and watch, Toni Rand and I were thinking at the same time and almost emailed at the same time our ideas to each other for raising money to help our fellow coaches and judges who have lost everything or even lost enough to effect their income over the next few months. I have even heard from Region 5 - they want to help! So, we have set up the Region 8 Hurricane Relief Fund. This site will display names of the generous people that have donated. Or, you can mail your donation to:

Ways that you can help:
• Meet Directors:  Please consider sending $1.00 - $2.00 per athlete in your meets this year to the Region 8 Hurricane Fund. If we could get every meet in our region to do this, we would raise a substantial amount of money to assist the people in need.
• Clubs:  Please consider sending a cash donation to the fund. Any amount will help!

Please post this notice on your websites for your clients, that may wish to donate to our fund!

Since all of the states in Region 8 are being asked to help, the Regional Committee will gather the needs of the gyms/judges that need our help, evaluate, and disperse funds as quickly as possible. Region 5 has already contacted me and is linking to our page for donations. How can we not give when so many others far removed from us are willing to help? We are asking, no, we are BEGGING for 100% participation from our gyms for donations.
