ELITE NEWS

Posted: 01.22.2009

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made the December TOPS/Elite testing and clinic a great success. We had 24 athletes compete in the testing and 55 participate in the clinic. Thank you to Randy Sikora and Gary Anderson from American Twisters for providing us with a great facility to train in, and a special thanks goes out to our National clinician Todd Gardiner and all of our Regional clinicians who helped to make this a great experience for all of the athletes involved.

Qualifying Scores for the 2009 Season:

Compulsory scores:
Junior and Senior Elite - 35.00 at a regional or national qualifier (for new international elites)
*International Elites that have competed at Classics are not required to attain a compulsory score.
Junior Pre-Elite - 33.50 at a regional or national qualifier
Hopes - 32.00 at a regional or national qualifier

Optional Scores needed to qualify to Classics
Junior Elite - 51.00 at a national qualifier or camp
Senior Elite - 53.00 at a national qualifier or camp

Optional Scores needed to qualify to Challenge
Junior Pre-Elite - 47.00 at a regional or national qualifier
Hopes - 45.00 at a regional or national qualifier

Qualification to Championship from Classics
Junior – 52.00
Senior – 54.00

A few things to remember as you enter into your season.

• An athlete is NOT considered an Elite until they have competed their first event at a Classic competition. If an athlete competes as a Pre-Elite or Hopes athlete in a Challenge competition they are still eligible to compete in the JO program, and are not considered an elite.

• Regional qualifiers may only be used to qualify to a Challenge competition and to achieve an elite testing score. An athlete cannot qualify to Classics from a regional qualifier.

• To qualify to a Classic or Challenge competition you must have obtained both an optional and testing score. This may be done in any order.

• Only USA National Team members can qualify to Championships through a National team camp. All other athletes must compete at Classics.

Qualification to Developmental/Open Camps

Coaches may submit videos to the National office for
consideration of any athlete interested in attending a Developmental/Open camp at the National Training Center. Videos should include current skills and routine work, along with age and current level. If an athlete is invited to attend a camp, the coach and athlete will be responsible for all expenses to attend the camp. There have been several developmental/open camps added to the Elite calendar.
