Region 8 Committee Meeting May 30, 2012Coronado Springs ResortWalt Disney WorldKissimmee, FL Region 8 Chairperson Deb Kornegay called the meeting to order at 5:03. Members present: Debby Kornegay – RACC Jackie Latino – LA Marian Dykes – RTCC Shelley Weil - LA Brad Harris – RJOCC Nancy Hawkins – MSDeb Walls – AL Jennie Adams – NCToni Rand – FL Joanne Child – SCJon Aardema – GA Larry Corrigan – TNMichelle Pomerantz – GA Sheila Ragle – RJD NAWGJ Jennie Adams was appointed secretary. A list of judging recommendations for Level 10 Nationals and Level 9 Easterns was presented. Deb Kornegay, Sheila Ragle, and Marian Dykes recused themselves from the discussion and the vote. Motion Toni moved to accept the list as presented for Level 10 Nationals for 2013. Evelyn Chandler, Diane Thompson, Kathy Kuhn and Cookie Batsche2nd Jackie Passed unanimously Motion Nancy moved to accept the list as presented for Level 9 Easterns for 2013.Joan Gnat, Marian Dykes and Mary Lou Dillard. Alternates Debby Kornegay and Sheila Ragle2nd Deb W Passed unanimously Marian and Sheila got together prior to Region 8 Committee meeting to go over the list to see if the criteria was fulfilled by each judge submitting availability. An email was sent out earlier for a vote to accept or not accept the in-state clinic as fulfilling the criteria. No changes were made, therefore state clinics were not accepted. Independent of each other and Sheila and Marian looked at the lists of judges and proposed a slate for states choosing to use a rotation (AL, GA, MS, NC, SC, TN, individual judges’ names were submitted for FL and LA.) Jennie and Sheila recused themselves from the discussion and the vote. Discussion about Xcel 2013 rules usage. Due to the fact that the 2013 Xcel rules are not finalized, the board voted to make no change in Xcel rules for Region 8 for 2012-2013 season.Motion Larry Move to keep the Xcel rules the same for the Region 8 as the rules used in 20122nd Toni 7 for 1 against (GA) Next Region 8 Committee meeting will be Thursday, August 9th at 9:00 A.M. Nashville, TN at Region 8 Congress. December meeting will be held Monday, December 3rd at 9:00 A.M. in Atlanta, GA. Gifts were given to Jon and Jackie for their service as State Chairman.Brad Harris received a 5 year service award from USA Gymnastics. Larry thanks Brad and Marian for their help in getting the “New Skill named for athlete” rule accepted for NIT. Brad – gave an overview the new optional program for 2013. Deb K. Brad, Larry, Sheila, and Marian stayed for a sub-committee meeting about the Judges Rotation Process.
